PMMM Katharina

"You aren't real." 

Day in and day out Katharina would stare at the books on that shelf, knowing full well that her so called "life" was drawn from those pages. Ever fiber of her being, every minute detail of her personality. All of it was fabricated for her. By her. That Puella Magi who had wished for her to come to life from those scraps of paper. To be her 'friend'. 

In actuality, to be her ever obedient, ever silent servant. 

Katharina hated this farse of an existance. Loathed it with every fiber of her not-being. 

Her only companion seemed to be that creature that accompanied her 'creator'; it told her endless tales of the world outside her library, of all the joys to be found there. Even though her creator forbade it, still the creature would come to keep her company. Then, one day--

"She's dead, Katharina. She was killed in battle." The girl's head shot up, her eyes wide in shock. 

"She-- is?" She croaked, voice rusty from lack of use. In fact, this was the first time she ever remembered being capable of speech. And if she could speak, then her creator truly was dead!


But then, what did that mean for her? 

She looked down at her hands-- were her eyes playing tricks on her? Was she turning back into words?! 

"You don't have to fade away, Katharina! Make a contract with me, and I can make you real. Do you want--" The words form before she even gives them a second thought. 

"I wish I was a real person!"

This all came from a conversation I had with my co-conspirators Jeishii, QuixoticApricot, anddedizenoflight wherein we wondered what our characters would be like in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica verse. So of course, me being the little designing nerd that I am, I just HAD to draw up the concepts for this!! Please excuse the sketchiness, though. I literally drew this out in... 20 min? Something like that? I may get around to doing proper versions of these some day. Maybe. 

Gee, I wonder what type of book Kath was pulled from? *long, loooong look at her outfit* XD

Also, yes, this was drawn on the back of a script in class, because I ran out of paper. No, that was not intentional. 

Design Notes!

Kath is 15-16 here, based on what I know of Dezi's source story for her. 

I think her outfit speaks for itself here, but I chose this design because I noticed Dezi absolutely ADORES Victorian/Gothic-esque outfits. So of course our lovely Kath gets one too! And also because plot points for SMV
Her soulgem is purple, and her symbol is a feather. Because it's easier to draw than a quill XD

Yes, her rapier blade is a quill. No, I am not sorry. Actually no, I am, because that was a pain in the ass to figure out how to draw. I chose a rapier for her because it just fits her personality more than anything, and it plays into her power set. Speaking of...

Kath's specific brand of magic is "Creation", since she asked to become real-- aka, be given a true life. She can use her blade like a quill to write or draw what she wants to summon into existence. While this sounds EXTREMELY overpowered, it of course has its drawbacks. Namely, the larger the object she's creating, the more magic it takes. So I feel like she's more of a "run and gun" type, using her powers in short bursts to finish of the witches quickly.
